In October 2018, a new pattern subscription service was released to the knitting and crochet community.
Prior to this year, the only real way to get access to paid knitting and crochet patterns was to purchase them from sites like Ravelry.
Ravelry is amazing for sourcing patterns - it allows you to buy and store pattern PDFs, so that you may return to them at any stage in the future. Interestingly, the operators of Ravelry have released statistics which show that over half the patterns purchased on Ravelry are paid for, but never actually downloaded :(
From a designers point of view - this is great! I get paid for my work whether the buyer ever uses the product.
From a crafters point of view - this seems like a waste!
And what about patterns that one does purchase and dislike, and knows they will never use again??
This is where the Making Things App (MT) can offer an alternative way of accessing patterns.
With MT, the crafter subscribers to the service, and for one fee per month they have access to EVERY pattern on the site.
As long as they continue to pay their monthly subscription fee, they will have access to the patterns.
Obviously the MT app will not appeal to everyone, but for those who are interested I feel it has great potential.
You can find a small selection of my patterns on MT.
If there are more of my patterns that you wish to see on there, please let me know which ones!
